About ITME |
|
Found in
1999 by Sascha C.C. Steiner, ITME focused on the biological
investigation of marine ecosystems in tropical regions where such
activities had not been carried out or only marginally. Principal goals
included generating environmental data relevant to conservation
initiatives and making such information easily accessible, in order to
facilitate monitoring and research ventures. Projects were designed to
deliver technical consultancies while incorporating academic (research)
training and community outreach activities where requested.
While year round operations (research & education) took place at
the ITME field station in Dominica from 1999 through 2009, follow-up
projects in Dominica have so far been carried out through 2018. From
2010 to 2012 and 2015 to 2017 ITME was also engaged in the development
of marine habitat information platforms in Nicaragua and Ecuador
respectively.
ITME is a not-for-profit organization of the Commonwealth of Dominica LC074-99.
